Basic camera skills
Tonight (10th Apr 08) Ross continued teaching on the subject of basic camera skills. Last week we tackled Aperture, this week was Shutter Speed. Like past weeks Ross used diagrams to teach in a visual way how shutter speed works and how it affects our photographs. He explained how the shutter speed is directly related to aperture and ISO. You can download some of the diagrams and information from the Digital Nights page of this website.

Leo Rich
Tonight we welcomed Leo Rich to talk about the photographic work of his father during the war and also Leo's own photos. Leo kicked off with some very amusing anecdotes and shared with us how he first came to love photography. The highlight for me though was hearing how as a young lad one of his tricks was putting slugs down the blouses of the other school girls. No I didn't do that as a kid too!

Leo helped us appreciate how easy it is to capture a photograph today. Did you know that in the days of old there was such a thing as 2 ISO?! No that should not be 200 ISO I said 2!! There were some beautiful photos taken from war planes and some even showed the bombs being dropped. Remember we are talking about heavy plate cameras here, no lightweight digital compact cameras with auto everything!!
